Britain's No.1 took just over two hours to beat the 18-year-old German as Murray produced some impressive tennis throughout to seal a 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 victory.
In temperatures of 26 degrees celsius with 44% humidity, Murray barely broke a sweat as he took the first set 6-1, making just four unforced errors to Zverev's 17.
Murray, who beat him 6-3, 6-4 in the Hopman Cup last week, was eager to wrap things up quickly as he stormed into the lead in the second set.

But 28-year-old used his experience to push aside the youngster and book his place in the next round.

Murray will face Australian Sam Groth in round two after he defeated Adrian Mannarino 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.
In the Rod Laver Arena, British No.1 Johanna Konta recorded a shock 6-4, 6-2 victory over Venus Williams.
