With just a few days to go before the Ballon d'Or winner is announced, Facebook has provided a clue as to the result having conducted a study on which candidate has received the most mentions since the 23-man shortlist was confirmed.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the hottest player on the social network, accounting for 36% of the total chatter. Neymar comes in second, getting a mention in 24% of conversations and Leo Messi completes the top three, with 12%. As luck would have it, the Facebook podium concurs with that of the Ballon d'Or race, reflecting the three players that have received the most votes (albeit not necessarily in the same order) and will take centre-stage at the award ceremony in Zurich on Monday.
