Louis van Gaal could quit Man Utd with Jose Mourinho kept being informed of his situation

LOUIS VAN GAAL is reportedly considering walking out on Manchester United - as Jose Mourinho waits for the job.

Louis van Gaal

Van Gaal has come under pressure at Old Trafford this season, particularly during a winless run of eight games before the turn of the year.

The Dutchman brought a smile back to Red Devils fans' faces after overseeing a 1-0 win at bitter rivals Liverpool on Sunday - their third victory in their last four games. However, according to the Daily Mirror, Van Gaal is contemplating walking out on United in the summer.

The 64-year-old's family are said to be increasingly concerned at the pressure he is under in Manchester.

And it is claimed Van Gaal could quit United a year before his contract expires - with Jose Mourinho poised to replace him.

Mourinho is still without a job after being sacked by Chelsea last month.

Mourinho

The Portuguese tactician has indicated he would be interested in managing United, despite his two spells with Chelsea.

Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes has close links with United having brokered the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Anderson, Nani, Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria.

And the Daily Mirror add Mourinho is being kept informed of his friend Van Gaal's situation at United.

Mourinho is odds-on with some bookmakers to be the next United boss, although there has been suggestions the club's board consider him to be too volatile for the post.

Van Gaal's current assistant Ryan Giggs has also been tipped for the job, but has little experience in a top role.

Pep Guardiola is another linked with United but he is expected to replace Manuel Pellegrini at rivals Manchester City when he leaves Bayern Munich this summer.
