But the Dutch manager has vowed to improve the side that sometimes even bores him.
"Our difficulty is not our defensive organisation – that you can see, all the stats are in that direction," Van Gaal said.
"But the stats in the attacking direction are not so good so we have to improve that part, especially in the third and fourth phase. That is where our intention is going too.
"We have to lift that and we are very busy with that but at this moment we can improve.
"Every week I’m saying we have to improve in the third or fourth phase.”
And if Van Gaal is looking for someone in form then he need look no further than Will Keane.
And he has down his chances no harm with a hat-trick for the Under-21 side against Reading.
The England under-21 international was a live wire as United won 3-1, and Keane sent a strong message to Van Gaal about his abilities.
