Prosecutors want to charge Neymar

Controversy continues to surround Neymar’s transfer from Santos to Barcelona.

According to 'Cadena Ser', prosecutors have asked High Court judge José de la Mata to have Neymar charged on two counts: fraud and corruption, both related with his move to Barcelona during the summer of 2013.
Prosecutors have also asked for charges to be brought against the following parties: Barça president, Josep Maria Bartomeu; former president, Sandro Rosell; Neymar's father; former Santos directors Luis Álvaro de Oliveira and Odílio Rodrigues; and the two football clubs, Santos and FC Barcelona.
Prosecutors acted as a result of legal proceedings brought by the Brazilian investment fund DIS, which accuses the defendants of fraud because it should have received 40% of the payment that Barcelona paid Santos for the player.
However, it only received that percentage of the 17.1 million euros that the club said it had paid for the Brazilian, when in fact, according to High Court investigations, the deal cost 83.3 million. The defendants also stand accused of corruption after Neymar, despite being under contract at DIS - and without informing the fund -, signed a deal with Barcelona worth forty million euros, to join the team as soon as he was a free agent.
